Future Doctors Teach began with our co-founders and a single classroom visit. During his year of service with City Year Philadelphia, Zach Davis worked in a 4th grade classroom, where Deran Neducsin served as his manager. The two stayed connected after Zach’s service year ended and throughout his journey to medical school.
The following year, Zach survived a life-threatening medical emergency. While recovering—and at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic—he reconnected with his former 4th grade students virtually. He shared his personal health story and began answering questions from students (and even their families) about science, health, and medicine. What started as weekly science lessons from one med student soon grew into a movement. Today, Future Doctors Teach is a growing nonprofit project of the Federation of Neighborhood Centers, Inc., committed to transforming science education and building healthier, more connected communities.
